# Pause a member's seat

Turn one member's access off WITHOUT removing them: the seat keeps its role, its teams, its assignments and everything the person ever wrote, and the door stops letting them in (their next call answers 423). Reach for this when somebody is on leave, between devices, or under review — anything where a removal would be too much and a demotion would not stop them. Admin only; an owner can only be paused by an owner, nobody may pause their own seat, and the last owner who is still live cannot be paused (409). Resuming is one call and restores nothing, because nothing was taken.
